About

Ever since I was young, I’ve been fascinated by the complexity of personality and relationships. An interest in the drama of human existence and life’s deepest questions led me to study English and philosophy in college. Later, I discovered that I wanted to explore these questions with real people who were confused, hurting, and wanting something more for their lives. I completed a doctorate in clinical psychology at a graduate program that integrated social science, philosophy, and the Christian faith. Since then I have worked in a variety of settings including an inpatient psychiatric hospital, a residential treatment facility, a transitional housing center, and a group therapy practice. I now operate a private practice in Richmond, VA.

Psychologist Teresa Ingraffia

I help my clients to create space between the events in their lives and their responses to them so that they can make free choices.

When I began working with clients, I quickly discovered how many people have been impacted by trauma or deeply painful events. I have also found that many people underestimate the impact of their past on their present-day experiences. My desire is to help people make past-present connections, process through pain and trauma, and be more free to make choices that align with their values and their deepest desires. I help my clients to create space between the events in their lives and their responses to them so that they can make free choices and show up the way they hope to in their relationships as spouses, parents, children, friends, and colleagues. I start with careful listening and deep empathy to support my clients and to make sure we understand the problems before trying to fix them. While therapy involves dealing with heavy and difficult things, I encourage moments of humor and lightheartedness in the process. I also understand that incorporating faith into therapy is valuable for many, and I welcome spiritual conversations. It is a privilege to be able to accompany my clients in gently examining and healing some of the most vulnerable parts of their lives and finding a place of greater freedom and joy.
